Biography

Biography

Currently I mainly focus on the evaluation of healthcare innovations, but also the innovation of evaluation of healthcare innovations. I do this as a core member of The Healthcare Innovation Center (THINC. www.thinc.healthcare), a center that is part of the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, University Medical Center Utrecht, and that aims to assess the efficacy, usability, cost-effectiveness, and impact after implementation of healthcare innovations, therby enabling to fasttrack promising innovations and to halt innovativons that may not be that useful afterall.

My other scientific work on the one hand includes empirical studies aimed at enhancing personalized management, mainly by using (network) meta-analysis and prognostic modeling. I have conducted and am involved in several large international individual participant data (IPD) meta-analyses in the focus is generally on subgroup effects, and I've reviewed, developed and validated numerous clinical prediction models. On the other hand my work focuses on methodology for prediction research and IPD (network) meta-analysis, with again a focus on subgroup analysis to identify individuals that may benefit from treatment more than others. Additionally I serve as a methodologist/consultant in the Dutch Consortium for Healthcare Evaluation and Research in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (www.studies-obsgyn.nl).
